Athlone Live went online in August 2006 as the original forum which was run by Athlone Town Council closed at that time. Many visitors and especially regulars to the original forum were cut off from friends they had grown up with and/or went to school with.
Given the number of overseas Irish, with their collective knowledge of the way of life in Athlone from times past it was a shame that their memories and stories could no longer be shared and conversly, news of the town as seen by locals relayed back to them.
Therefore this website started as a half-baked idea but has gone on to be an excellent resource for anyone with an interest of Athlone and indeed Ireland in general. Every conceivable facet of Athlone life is discussed in the forum and friendships and acquaintences are constantly being established.
There are no fees associated with membership of Athlone Live, although donations are always welcome to help defray web hosting fees. Many thanks go out to those who have contributed. So please look at the Forum section, read what people are contributing, sign up, and say hello. We hate spam too so we never send any.
See you in the forum!
