Are you sure it didn't open a few months earlier than that, Mark? I seem to recall being in it around July of that year, and seeing the "mermaid" frieze being carried in by a meitheall. Does that piece of artwork still exist?

I have to agree the "SHACK" was & is still one of the best pubs around OH! happy day's nice & relaxing & good lunches.

The Genoa Bar Athlone was opened Christmas week of Dec 1967. The mural that you talk of which was made by one of the then owner’s family was of Neptune and Aphrodite. Do you remember the wine cellar at the end of the lounge ? Some great sessions in it from time to time . “Slán Tamal”

Hello! Doojeen. Many Thanks . I have been to the museum and worked the amature station on many occasions. RTE also have a Museum of radio memorabilie from some of the first Irish Ham's. I am licenced myself since the early seventies and i am active almost daily on the band's.Try QRZ.com and then ENTER the call EI6DL and see what you find !! Have fun and take care 73'es .

I, happened to salavage the mermaid ,horses & the fish the was in rest pieces.from "The Genoa Bar.
